Food and Beverage

Riviersonderend is known for its rural farm simplicity and serenity. It’s not known for its variety of bustling restaurants. For those passing through there are some fast food establishments located in the town’s Main Street. If you’d prefer a light meal made with farm-fresh local produce you might want to stop in at one of the farm stalls in the area. Most of these are easy to find along the N2. Shops in town will take care of all your self-catering requirements. Riviersonderend is also conveniently close to other Cape Country Meander town eateries particularly Greyton and Caledon.

Ou Meul Bakery
Ou Meul Bakery was established in 1988 in the small town of Riviersonderend situated on the N2 Highway. It underwent a revamp in September 2008 at the hands of owner Antonie Basson. Since then the bakery has gone from strength to strength, with clientele raving about the extensive range of delicious pies, including mutton, venison, chicken and the much loved bobotie pies. Although the bakery specialises in pies (full and bite size), it is also famous for its milk tarts, apple turn-overs and a range of other sweet treats. Customers can also enjoy a freshly brewed cappuccino or quench their thirst with a cool drink from the well stocked fridges. The Ou Meul brand was expanded in December 2010 when a second stand alone shop was opened in Hermanus. Here Antonie's team continues to impress holiday makers with his fresh pies and pastries.
