Where to Visit

The Cape Country Meander begins in Elgin (Grabouw), less than an hour from Cape Town by road. While the eight Meander towns are incredibly close to one another, it’s still advisable to plan what you’d like to see and do. This is particularly important if you’re time-pressed and have a keen interest in specific attractions or activities. By all visitor accounts the area provides some of the country’s most exceptional natural attributes in terms of dramatic scenery. Take some time to browse each town’s accommodation and dining options, active pursuits, natural and historical sites and attractions.

Botrivier is a pretty river town in a fertile valley at the foot of the Houw Hoek Mountains. It’s famous for its community character. The river Bot threads through wild flowers and fynbos, historic wine estates and vast fields of wheat. In the early days the Khoi-khoi people inhabited the area and were instrumental in how the area got it’s quirky name.
